Operation Treats for Troops

As part of Armed Forces Day which honors Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard, Zoe's Daisy Troop participated in Operation Treats for Troops. The girls collected donations from people outside Kroger's. The money will be used to buy girl scout cookies to send to our armed forces. The girls collected enough money to buy 49 boxes of cookies. Well done, girls!

Additionally, a reporter from patch.com wrote two articles about our troop collecting these donations. They care:

Mother Daughter Tea

The Workman Girl Scouts held their 2nd Annual Mother Daughter Tea today. Zoe and I made hats and put on our fancy dresses to attend. We snacked on tea sandwiches and desserts and of course, had tea. Zoe and I even led the fancy hat parade. Zoe didn't win the fancy hat contest, but was happy to be a finalist.

Spring Soccer

The Supergirls had their first spring soccer game today. Due to all of the rain, they only managed to have one practice before this game. The lost, by a lot, but still had fun. And, if you ask Zoe, she will probably tell you they won. She was convinced the other team only had 2 goals at one point, even though they had scored 3 on her while she was in goal.

Nate at Swimming

I finally got Nate signed back up for some swimming lessons and he loved it. He had a smile on his face the entire time.

Nate is supposed to have his chin on the blue line at the edge of the pool in this photo. For some reason, the way he is holding himself just cracks me up.

Humane Society

Zoe's Daisy troop donated 25% of their cookie money to the Michigan Humane Society. With the money, they purchased:

(2) Bags totaling 104 lbs of Dog Food

(1) 4 lbs of Raw Hide Dog Treats

(8) Cat Toys

(8) Containers of Disinfectant Wipes

(1) Gallon of Dishwashing Liquid

(24) Double Rolls of Environmentally Friendly Paper Towels

Each girl also made a kitty fort to donate. These little homes help the kitties/cats with stressful situations (maybe we need to make a couple for Alex and Nicholas). Their visit even ended up being part of an article in YAKS corner, which is mini-newspaper for kids that's filled with local stories, events and people plus current events. The article features their tour guide at the Humane Society, Ron Blauet. You can see it here online at http://nieonline.com/detroit/parents.cfm. Click on download this week's issue. They are on page 2.

Tae Kwan Do

Zoe and her Daisy troop had a Tae Kwan Do class to learn about being courageous and strong. The girls and a quite a few of the parents (including me) had fun learning some basics about Tae Kwan Do.
